Remember that basic palette I was talking about in my signature look post? If not you can view it (here), but if so kudos to you! haha.. I’m referencing the post because I decided to use that same black palette to showcase the power of basics.
Here I have on the same black turtleneck, a pair of black pants, switched the outerwear and shoes and voilà! With your own eyes you are now witnessing a fresh look wearing literally the exact same pieces in the previous post. Not only can you save money by pairing basics in different ways as such, you also get the most bang for your buck. I swear by basics and this is the exact reason why!
This oversized brown shearling cape coat was the perfect piece to break up this all black ensemble. I usually go for a more fitted coat but this cape, with a red lip to top everything off, instantly dressed up this casual look.
I decided to go with a more relaxed coat because (in my opinion) tailored pieces and oversized pieces both equally make a statement when wearing basics. If you prefer a more fitted piece you can easily cinch in your waist by adding a chunky belt. As I stated earlier I love an oversized coat so instead of wearing the belt, I left the cape open and paired it with over-the-knee boots to balance out the look.
This look truly demonstrates the versatility of basics. Invest in them, trust me you won’t regret it.
